Intention is not more relevant than effect.

home school

I've decided to make the most of all this time on my hands and develop an extensive curriculum for my newest venture: home school.

Some of the classes I'll be dabbling in this term?

MUSIC: introduction to the banjo
FRENCH: continuing French after studying abroad in Paris
LATIN: back to basics
OBJECTIVISM: understanding Ayn Rand
PHOTO: exploring your xsi and 22mm black slim devil
HOME ECONOMICS: deep cleaning and getting to know your kitchen
COMPUTERS: finding free downloads of architectural software--and teaching yourself to use them
PHYSICAL EDUCATION: basic fitness tools
CAREER COUNSELING: finding your dream job in just twenty minutes a day

Very excited about this--school starts on Monday. Hoping to have a schedule out this afternoon.

manifesto 01

To delight and inspire. And do good work. These are my current intentions.

As defined by my dearly over-sized Webster's Twentieth Century Dictionary (unabridged) from 1939:

man-i-fes'to: a public declaration, usually of  prince or sovereign, showing his intentions or proclaiming his opinions and motives.

mardi gras

Last night, I indulged in one last hurrah with refined sugar in the form of ginger-molasses cookies topped with real whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon.

My sister and I have challenged ourselves to remove refined sugars and cheese from our diets for the next forty-some days. In addition to taking away, we are also tasking ourselves with intentional daily motion (or, as some might say, "working out") and a daily manifesto.

cocoa-cinnamon smoothie

1 banana - cut in half, fresh or frozen
1 teaspoon unsweetened cocoa
1 tablespoon ground flaxseed
3/4 cup unsweetened almond milk
2 generous dashes of cinnamon
4 tiny drops of vanilla cream stevia (optional)

Blend until smooth. Enjoy.

jeudi

We had some amazing sunshine yesterday. Back to a textured gray this morning, but am feeling a little more well-equipped to handle it.

Yesterday was quite productive--lots of strolling about on the sun-drenched sidewalks (it was brisk but bearable with the sun on my face), tackling long-awaited correspondence, and

On the docket for this mid-February morn:
several cups of strong coffee
wishlist
portfolio & resume updates
workspace clean-up
a round of well-wishing
perhaps a few portfolio submissions
practice french and latin for my inevitable return to paris

And for dailymade? To be determined after my second cup of coffee. Stay tuned.

northwest palette

a tiny bit of blue beyond

The fifth consecutive gray day since my return to the northwest. Instead of sunshine filling the sky, I just see very large light-colored clouds.

Don't take it personally, Seattle. If I was constantly painting with this palette, I'd be criticized too.

haussman in the seventh

At artshop, we just received a lovely photo (below) from photographer Alice Gao, who recently purchased one of our prints:

haussman in the seventh

After a tiny bit of research, I found her lovely blog lingered upon. I love this bedroom.

bureau d'action

Inspired by the ideas of early Herman Miller Action Office systems:

astoria as inspiration

An 18x24 black and white print for the home office that reads: this is an ACTION OFFICE.

That's right. Action.
